Travel warning remains in place after fresh Egypt violence
Fresh incidents of violence have broken out in Cairo leaving two people dead and 400 injured following the deaths of 74 people after a football match.
Two marches yesterday to Tahrir Square in the Egyptian capital in protest over the deaths at the match in Port Said on Wednesday sparked clashes with the authorities.
Police fired tear gas to keep the thousands of protesters away from the ministry of interior building, which is protected by concrete barricades.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has not changed its travel advice to Egypt but continues to warn British travellers to avoid all crowds and demonstrations.
“There are frequent demonstrations, usually on Fridays, centring on Tahrir Square, Cairo. There remains a possibility of demonstrations taking place elsewhere in Cairo as well as other cities in Egypt including Alexandria,” the FCO said.
