The London to Cape Town World Cup Rally will travel through Egypt this year, adding a new thrill and flair to the challenge.

The race took off from London on the first day of the year then travelled across France, Italy and Greece, and the competitors are set to cross the Mediterranean to Africa.

On 8 January, they will land in Alexandria and travel across the desert, observing the great land of the Pharaohs, to Ain Sokhna and the Red Sea port of Safaga before heading to Saudi Arabia to take in the rally’s third continent, Asia.

They will return to Africa in Sudan after the authorities refused access to the country through Egypt’s southernmost point of Shalatin due to an ongoing border dispute.

They will travel then through Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, and Namibia, before reaching South Africa.
The World Cup Rally – which began in 1923 – is the only race going from the tip of Africa to its southernmost point at the Cape of Good Hope in Cape Town, South Africa.
